Pop prodigy Lorde kicks off her new era by dropping a brand new single ‘Green Light‘ and its accompanying music video. Needless to say, the internet is shook as fuck.
It’s been 3 long years since 2014’s dramatic ‘Yellow Flicker Beat‘ off the soundtrack of the Hunger Games : Mockingjay – which remains my fave Lorde single till date (yes, better than ‘Royals‘ in my opinion’) – and four since her global smash of a Grammy-winning début ‘Pure Heroine‘. The New Zealander obviously had some major expectations to fulfill for both her fans and her critics. With the Jack Antonoff-co-produced ‘Green Light‘ – Lorde roars with a comeback track that’s easily worth the long wait. Think Madonna’s euphoric ‘Ray Of Light‘ era colliding with Tori Amos’s ‘Little Earthquakes‘.
A heartbreak anthem, rather a cathartic scream – ‘Green Light‘ is a fiery punch to an ex’s face (#yassqueen) over a grand soaring chorus and textured synths. ‘Did it frighten you, how we kissed when we danced on the light up floor?‘ – she snarls menacingly. This is just what we need to save Pop music in 2017! ‘Green Light‘ is officially the first single off her upcoming sophomore album titled ‘Melodrama‘ – scheduled for release this year.
