30 of Country Music’s biggest names (living legends, icons, newbies et al) come together to celebrate 50 years of the annual Country Music Awards – by releasing a stunning medley of three of the most iconic Country songs of all time. Good luck with that NOT getting stuck in your head!
Everyone from today’s megastars Kacey Musgraves, Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley to Country icons Trisha Yearwood, Alabama, Reba McEntire unite to create ‘Forever Country‘ – an incredible mash-up of John Denver’s ‘Country Roads‘, Dolly Parton’s ‘I Will Always Love You‘ and Willie Nelson’s ‘On The Road Again‘. The results? Goosebumps and a guaranteed ugly cry. Get those tissue boxes out y’all!
I’m generally quite skeptical about mash-ups – especially if they involve classics. But this one’s a tribute done right – and featuring Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson in the tribute is a genius masterstroke! The mash-up is a seamless blend of the 3 songs – the vocals are on point and the harmonies are gorgeous! Major chills when you listen to this one – the part when Carrie Underwood and Martina McBride soar with the chorus of ‘I Will Always Love You‘ while Little Big Town harmonize with ‘Country Roads‘ – that right there got me all misty-eyed #uglycryFTW!! Producer Shane McAnally nails this one, while the Joseph Kahn-directed video is one huge dose of nostalgia – I mean can Trisha Yearwood please PLEASE release a new album already?? Watching her sing got me into an ugly cry all over again.
Unsurprisingly – the song debuts at # 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart this week, only the third song in history of the charts to do so!
Check out ‘Forever Country‘ right here, and if you’ve grown up listening and singing these songs like I have – be prepared to re-live your childhood memories with this one!
