Well we knew this was about to happen – but this is UNHEARD OF Y’ALL!

As a chart-geek, I’m thoroughly baffled – cuz what Adele’s ‘25‘ has achieved is nothing short of historic! The mother of all chart-weeks was just witnessed this week!

With over an astounding 3.38 million copies sold within the very first week of its release in the US, Adele’s ‘25‘ shatters every record on the planet with the highest first week sales of all time since the advent of Nielsen Soundscan in 1991. Of course the album arrives at # 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart this week, and immediately becomes the biggest selling album of 2015, easily trumping Taylor Swift’s ‘1989‘. The figures for ‘25‘ increases to 3.48 million units when streaming and song-equivalent-sales are taken into account – unthinkable, especially in times like these when barely a handful of albums have managed to cross the 500,000 mark this year. Adele thus ends N*Sync’s 15-year-record for the highest first-week sales for an album, when ‘No Strings Attached‘ (remember those halcyon days of youth? Sigh!) stormed in at # 1 with 2.4 million albums sold in its first week in the US. Among female artists – it’s Britney saying goodbye to her 15-year-record she so carefully guarded with ‘Oops! I Did It Again‘, which went on to sell over 1.32 million albums in the US in its first week.

Across the pond, ‘25‘ debuts at # 1 on the UK Top 40 Albums Chart with 800,307 copies sold in its first week. As in the US, ‘25‘ also becomes the fastest selling album in the UK, overtaking the current record holder Oasis’ ‘Be Here Now‘. ‘25‘ is also the highest selling album of 2015 in the UK already, overtaking Ed Sheeran’s ‘X‘. Down under in Australia, the album arrives at # 1 on the ARIA Charts with a triple Platinum certification for 210,000 copies sold – yet another record. Global domination it is for Ms Adelegend!
