Growing up as a 90’s music baybeh, there was no way you could escape songstress Faith Evans’ honey-laced pipes.
The First Lady of Bad Boy Records kept the charts on lock with a relentless onslaught of singles throughout the latter half of the 90’s – she was actually the biggest R’n’B recording artist around 97-98 with back to back chart smashes from her sophomore album ‘Keep The Faith‘, as well as high-profile collaborations that included the Grammy-winning # 1 smash ‘I’ll Be Missing You‘ featuring (Puff) Daddy/Diddy, and the # 2-peaking ‘Heartbreak Hotel‘ with Whitney Houston and Kelly Price.
I’ve grown up jamming to ‘You Used To Love Me‘, ‘Never Gonna Let You Go‘, ‘Love Like This‘ and ‘I Love You‘ – all of which are a regular feature on my playlists. These R’n’B gems remain timeless!
20 years down the line, Faith – now an established actress and recording artist with an enviable body of work – shows no signs of slowing down. Back with a bang to preview her 6th studio album ‘Incomparable‘, Faith has recruited her ever-reliable former collaborator Missy Elliott along with Sharaya J to join her on the project’s lead single ‘I Deserve It‘.
My opinion? Classic Faith!
‘I Deserve It‘ typically showcases Faith’s mellow soprano – and is the perfect throwback to the 90’s R’n’B scene when music sounded like, well, music! This will easily take you back to the age of Faith, Mary J, Monica, Brandy, Aaliyah – major, major nostalgia y’all!
Also, Missy Elliott y’all. She could fart all over a video and make it cool! #BowDown
‘Incomparable‘ drops October 28th, until then, here’s a look at the Derek Blank’s-directed clip for ‘I Deserve It‘ featuring cameos by Terrell Owens, internet sensation Ice JJ Fish as well as Faith’s co-star on the show R’n’B Divas, Keke Wyatt.
