R’n’B Veteran/Icon/Legend Ms Mary J Blige has always, always been a revolutionary when it comes to collaborations.

Taking a cue from her game-changing Double-Platinum certified 1999 ‘Mary‘ album, the Queen Of Hip Hop/Soul hopped across the pond to explore the scene in the UK a few months ago – clearly, she knows which direction the musical landscape will head soon.

The upcoming album, the songstress supreme’s 13th – titled ‘The London Sessions‘ – seems to be Blige’s most ambitious project yet, featuring collaborations and productions by Naughty Boy, Sam Smith, Disclosure and Emeli Sande among others.

We’ve already heard Mary on Disclosure’s ‘F For You‘ and Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me‘ earlier this year – her powerhouse vocals and soulful style blend seamlessly with everything ranging from 90’s inspired House to Pop ballads – and yet she never really lets go of that Mary vibe. She’s all Mary J Blige!

The same trend seems to continue with ‘The London Sessions‘ – as is evident from the first song released from the project titled ‘Right Now‘ featuring Disclosure and co-written by Sam Smith, Jimmy Napes and the Disclosure brothers, a perfect harmony of Mary’s R’n’B laced pipes with Disclosure’s thumping beats.

The 9-time Grammy Award winning diva said of her experience – “To make records from the London-scene perspective…The music is free over here the way it used to be in the States. Artists are just free to do what they love. Listening to the radio you can hear the freedom. The music is living and breathing – you can hear that from Adele’s last album. It was massive – a big deal. But she did what she loved.

Couldn’t agree more – in the past few years we’ve got global megastars Amy Winehouse, Duffy, Adele, Sam Smith, Emeli Sande – all from across the pond. If we’ve had a ballad or a club track topping the Billboard Hot 100 in recent times, it’s cuz of Europe! I can’t wait to hear what else Blige’s got up her sleeves, especially that duet with Emeli Sande! ‘The London Sessions‘ is scheduled to drop this November – traditionally a choc-a-bloc month for new releases.
