Fun fact about this week’s Billboard Hot 100? Three artists boast of two singles each within the coveted top 10 this week, each with a lead single, and each as a featured artist. Lets dive into the stats below immediately – I’m itching to discuss the details obviously #ChartGeek #ChartNerd #STFU #ReadOn

As Canadian band Magic’s ‘Rude‘ holds on to the coveted # 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, some major movements shake up the top 10 of the chart, threatening Magic’s stronghold of the penthouse.

Sam Smith – the first of the three artists mentioned above – soars up a notch with his stellar ballad ‘Stay With Me‘ after weeks of staying stagnant at # 3, and is poised to take over the # 1 spot as early as next week itself. If that happens – America should really stand up and take a bow for allowing an openly gay British singer to lead their charts with his very first solo single. Also, Sam Smith is the gay Adele #Gaydele. These two should do a duet maybe? #UncontrollableShivers at the very thought!

Smith also doubles up as a guest vocalist on Disclosure’s ‘Latch‘ which stays put at # 10 this week.

Next up, the trio of Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj blasts in at # 6 this week with their collaboration ‘Bang Bang‘ – easily one of the best Pop songs of the year. ‘Bang Bang‘ sold an impressive 230,000 units this week to arrive at the top of the Digital Songs Chart – easily making it the second highest digital début this year. The song with the highest début this year? Ariana Grande’s ‘Problem‘ featuring Iggy Azalea which arrived with stellar sales of 438,000 units in its first week.

Jessie J thus earns her second top 10 hit with ‘Bang Bang‘ (which is the lead single from her new album – her second in the US and third overall) and matches her previous peak with ‘Domino‘. Too bad her sophomore album ‘Alive‘ did not get an official release in the US – hopefully some of the songs from ‘Alive‘ will make it to the US version of the new album – A La Natasha Bedingfield’s ‘Pocketful Of Sunshine‘.

Bang Bang‘ – this generation’s ‘Lady Marmalade‘ – also creates history for Rapstress/Potty-mouth Extraordinaire/Harajuku Barbie/Anaconda Enthusiast Nicki Minaj – who surpasses every female Rapper in history as she notches her 10th top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Watch out for her 11th very soon indeed, as her provocative new ode to the arse – ‘Anaconda‘ – is set for a lofty début on the Hot 100 next week.

Budding Pop diva Ariana Grande not only boasts of the two biggest debuts of the year so far – but also boasts of two songs in the top 10 and three in the top 20, as ‘Problem‘ places at # 5 right above ‘Bang Bang‘ at # 6, and ‘Break Free‘ featuring Zedd at # 18.

Australian Rapstress Iggy Azalea is the third of the trio to have two songs in the top 10 – her 7-week former # 1 ‘Fancy‘ featuring Charli XCX slips one spot to # 3, apart from her guest appearance on ‘Problem‘ at # 5. Look out for Iggy’s ‘Black Widow‘ featuring Rita Ora to break into the top 10 very soon – the song sold over 100,000 units this week, and is steadily rising on Radio as well.

Roaring up a massive twenty places on the chart to # 8, rising star Meghan Trainor earns her first top 10 smash ‘All About That Bass‘. The song about self-appreciation and acceptance has clearly resonated with listeners, as the single sold over a whopping 169,000 units to move up to # 2 on the Digital Songs Chart right behind ‘Bang Bang‘. With the song rising on Radio and Streaming – I have a feeling we’re looking at a future # 1 smash here!

Over at the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, we have a legend earning his very first # 1 album over a 4-decade career. Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers arrive at # 1 with their new album ‘Hypnotic Eye‘, selling over 131,000 units of the album this week. The icons first appeared on the Billboard 200 with their self titled début album in 1977, and thus had a 37 year wait until they reached the penthouse.
