Ariana Grande, Iggy Azalea Slay Billboard Hot 100, John Legend Nabs First # 1 With ‘All Of Me’

The Iggy Azalea slay-age of the Billboard Charts has officially begun y’all!

Last week, the Australian rapstress’s début album ‘The New Classic‘ stormed in at # 3 on the Billboard 200, while her first Hot 100 entry – the irresistibly addictive ‘Fancy‘ featuring British chanteuse Charli XCX – roared up to a new peak of # 7, to become her very first top 10 hit.

This week, Ms Azalea unleashes her wrath on the charts in ways unseen in recent Billboard Charts history.

While ‘Fancy‘ vaults up three places up to a new peak of # 4 on the Hot 100, the song shoots up the Digital Songs Chart to a high of # 2 this week – selling an astounding 221,000 downloads this week. At this rate, ‘Fancy‘ is well on course to top the Billboard Hot 100 very soon indeed – a stellar achievement for a female rapper to send her début single to the top of the charts.

The artist ahead of Ms I.G.G.Y and sitting pretty at # 1 on the Digital Charts? Ms Iggy herself, featured on budding diva Ariana Grande’s brand new single ‘Problem‘ which creates history by debuting at # 1 with a massive 438,000 downloads sold – the highest début for 2014 (and 8th best début of all time) – as well as the highest début for a collaboration by female solo vocalists (trumping Madonna’s ‘Gimme All Your Luvin‘ feat. Nicki Minaj and MIA). Speaking of Minaj, her wig’s clearly under siege with Azalea’s chart domination.

Ms Azalea thus occupies both the # 1 and # 2 spots on the Digital Charts, becoming only the 6th artist in history to do so. And with ‘Problem‘ storming in the Billboard Hot 100 at # 3 (narrowly missing the # 1 spot), both her first two chart entries occupy the prestigious top 5 on the Hot 100. Azalea thus becomes only the third female vocalist to achieve such a feat after R’n’B songstress Ashanti and 60’s chanteuse Dee Dee Sharp.

Coincidentally, all three vocalists – Azalea, Grande and Charli XCX achieve their best chart positions on the Hot 100 yet!

Clearly, Miss Iggy Azalea has been workin’ on her sheeeeeat (REFERENCE)!

R’n’B smooth crooner John Legend FINALLY bumps of Pharrell’s ‘Happy‘ from the # 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 after a 10-week reign (I’ve honestly had enough of it), as his gorgeous piano-ballad ‘All Of Me‘ rises to the penthouse after languishing at # 2 for six weeks! Well deserved, and a much awaited change on the remarkably stagnant Hot 100 lately.

Over at the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, the soundtrack to ‘Frozen‘ spends a lucky 13th week at the summit, while it’s the album debuting at # 2 which has caught my fancy (reference!!) this week. Crossover violinist Lindsey Stirling’s sophomore dance-meets-classical album ‘Shatter Me‘ arrives straight at # 2 with sales of over 56,000 units this week – a well deserved placement. The hugely under-rated Stirling’s self-titled début effort has quietly crossed sales of over 327,000 units over a span of two years since its release in 2012, easily one of the best and most under-rated albums to have been released that year.
