For over half a decade, English singer-songwriter Paloma Faith has unleashed a steady stream of chart-worthy Soul-Pop hits since the release of her double-platinum certified début effort ‘Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful?‘ in 2009.
2014 sees the eclectic pop diva return with her much-anticipated third studio album ‘A Perfect Contradiction‘, scheduled for a March 10th release, preceded by the first single off the project titled ‘Can’t Rely On You‘, released yesterday.
An effectively solid and upbeat pop smash, ‘Can’t Rely On You‘ is an undeniably infectious new direction for Faith, as she collaborates with the ever reliable man of the moment Pharrell, who’s had a stellar run in 2013 with Daft Punk and Robin Thicke, and is all set to rule 2014 solo with his smash ‘Happy‘.
Irrespective of Pharrell’s signature falsetto-funk laced productions, Paloma stands her ground as her gospel-tinged crystalline vocals blend in seamlessly with Pharrell’s beats, as she gives it off to her womanizer of a lover. Although Faith exudes a familiar ferociousness reminiscent of her ‘Fall To Grace‘ era, the overall vibe of the song sounds like nothing off her double-platinum certified sophomore album which arrived at # 2 on the UK charts.
This maybe Paloma’s finest offering to date – a welcome departure from the moody growls of her previous albums.
I’m definitely looking forward to ‘A Perfect Contradiction‘ dropping this March – a much deserved US release for Paloma’s albums maybe? Especially now that Amy Winehouse, Duffy, Adele, Lily Allen, Florence Welsh and Ellie Goulding have set the stage?
‘Can’t Rely On You‘ is scheduled to arrive within the top 10 of the Official UK Top 40 Singles Chart this week.
