Toni Braxton And Babyface Debut High On Billboard Charts, Katy Perry Leads Hot 100

The resurrection of R’n’B is truly upon us. Hallelujah!

With Mariah Carey taking it back to her roots with her sensual new single ‘You’re Mine (Eternal)‘, Beyonce and Pharrell slaying the charts in every way possible, and some of the biggest artist of the late 90’s and early noughties making a comeback (Ashanti – we missed you), things are just about amazing for an old-school R’n’B fan, aka me.

And reinforcing our faith in music are R’n’B/Soul legends Toni Braxton and Babyface – who make a triumphant return to the charts with their stellar collaboration album ‘Love, Marriage And Divorce‘ – easily their best effort in ages (it’s been on replay since I got my hands on a copy), that have the critics and fans raving.

The smooth-crooning icons arrive at # 4 this week on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart with sales of over 67,000 units of the album, strong enough to ¬†earn them the coveted # 1 spot on the R’n’B/Hip Hop Albums Chart.

Braxton thus notches her highest charting album since 2000’s double platinum certified ‘The Heat‘ which launched at # 2 (she managed a # 4 peak in between with 2005’s ‘Libra‘ as well), while Babyface earns his highest charting album ever (he previously went as high as # 6 with 1996’s ‘The Day‘).

I’d strongly recommend y’all give this album a listen – easily my fave album of the year so far (check out ‘Roller Coaster‘, ‘Where Did We Go Wrong‘ and ‘Take It Back‘).

Over at the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart, Katy Perry’s ‘Dark Horse‘ featuring Juicy J leads the chart for a third week in a row, and remains the highest selling digital single in the country, shifting another 291,000 units this week. With the Academy Award nominated ¬†‘Happy‘ rising up the charts to # 2 this week, and a scheduled performance at the Oscars this year, chances are that Pharrell might just bump Katy off the penthouse to earn his very first # 1 single as a lead artist. Watch out for the fight next week!
