Beyonce’s ‘Drunk In Love’ Soars Up Billboard Hot 100, Katy Perry Remains Queen With ‘Dark Horse’

It’s chart-time y’all!

As the full impact of the 2014 Grammy Awards hits the Billboard Charts this week, a slew of the reigning queens and princesses of pop battle it out for a coveted spot within the top 10 following their stellar hauls and live performances at this year’s ceremony.

Over at the Billboard Hot 100 Singles, Katy Perry’s ‘Dark Horse‘ featuring Juicy J remains in command for a second week in a row, following Perry’s performance of the song at the Grammy’s, as well has her multiple nominations (she went back home empty-handed though) for ‘Prism‘ and ‘Roar‘. The song shifts 373,000 digital units this week, easily topping the Digital Songs Chart again.

Following the tenacious Mizz Perry, is Queen Beyoncé – whose utter slayage this era shows no signs of slowing down. As the parent album ‘Beyoncé‘ crosses the 3 million mark in worldwide sales in barely a month and a half of its release (# 5 this week), the album’s first official single ‘Drunk In Love‘ featuring Jay Z roars 11 spots up the Hot 100 to reach # 2 this week, following her stunning opening performance of the same song at the Grammy Awards this year. Beyoncé thus earns her first top 10 hit as a lead vocalist in more than 5 years – she last graced the coveted zone with ‘Sweet Dreams‘ in 2009, and as a featured artist on Lady Gaga’s ‘Telephone‘ in 2010.

The accolades don’t just stop there for Beyoncé – ‘Drunk In Love‘ becomes the diva’s 15th top 10 hit, thus placing the diva in the same ranks as legends Connie Francis and Olivia Newton-John. All three now share the seventh place among women with the most top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. The leaders of this list? Madonna (of course) with a stellar haul of 38 top 10 hits, followed by Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey with 27 each.

Drunk In Love‘ simultaneously tops the Billboard R’n’B/Hip Hop Songs Chart, thus becoming Beyoncé’s 7th, and Jay Z’s 10th topper on the same chart. The artists with the most # 1’s on this chart? Queen Of Soul Aretha Franklin leads with 20 number 1 hits, followed by the legendary Mizz Janet Jackson with 16 among women. Among male vocalists, Stevie Wonder ties Aretha with 20, while Louis Jordan follows with 18.

Following her win for the coveted Record Of The Year award as well as the Best Pop Vocal Performance, newbie Lorde’s ‘Royals‘ stays put at # 9 this week, while she closes the top 10 with her second single ‘Team‘ which holds on to the # 10 spot. Her début album ‘Pure Heroine‘ surges up to # 3 on the Billboard 200, following her wins and performance at the ceremony last week.

While the ‘Frozen‘ soundtrack holds its ground at the penthouse of the Billboard 200 Albums Chart for a fourth week, the majority of the top 10 consist of albums that have benefited from this year’s Grammy Awards. 7 out of the 10 albums have received a sales boost from the awards ceremony, while one album benefits both from the Grammy’s as well as the Super Bowl.

Leading the charge is the compilation album ‘2014 Grammy Nominees‘ which shifts over 87,000 units this week to remain at # 2, while Lorde’s ‘Pure Heroine‘ surges up to # 3 – her previous peak and début spot. While Beyoncé commands the # 5 spot, Bruno Mars soars into the top 10 at # 7 with ‘Unorthodox Jukebox‘ following his Grammy win for Best Pop Vocal Album and Super Bowl half-time performance.

Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry and Daft Punk – who won the coveted Album and Song Of The Year trophies – close out the top 10, with Punk’s ‘Random Access Memories‘ flying back to the top 10 for the first time since July 2013, shifting 31,000 units this week after the duo’s massive haul of 5 Grammy’s last week.
