Throwback Tuesday : Marvin Gaye’s ‘Sexual Healing’

It’s time to go way, way back  – back to when the originators and the innovators of the game were alive!

Let’s give it up for the undisputed king of baby-making slow-jams, the incomparable Mr Marvin Gaye y’all!

Mr Gaye’s biggest hit – the funk-laced soul-infused ‘Sexual Healing‘ – aka one of the greatest songs of all time, gets a much deserved shout-out today!

In the mood for some rampant love-making? Especially since the weather’s just about perfect? Play on!

Released in 1982, ‘Sexual Healing‘ was the first single from the album ‘Midnight Love‘, Marvin’s final album to be released before his death.

The single went on to top the Billboard Hot R’n’B Singles Chart for an unprecedented 10 weeks, eventually crossing over to the Pop charts and peaking at # 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart.

The song also earned Gaye two Grammy’s at the 1983 Grammy Awards for Best Male R’n’B Vocal Performance and Best R’n’B Instrumental Performance – the only two he ever won so far.

If you’ve heard a hint of the baby-making blues in the music of artists like Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Mary J Blige, D’Angelo, Maxwell, Boyz II Men – to newbies like Miguel, Robin Thicke and Chris Brown, then Gaye’s ‘Sexual Healing‘ provided the blueprint for them all!
