17-year old English indie-folk chanteuse Birdy easily possesses one of the most impressive sets of pipes the new generation of divas have to offer. The raw edge is the new rage lately – look where 16-year-old New Zealander Lorde is with her alt-pop gem ‘Royals‘.
Birdy’s hugely impressive 2011 début album of covers titled ‘Birdy‘ made a splash all over Europe, and climbed all the way to # 1 in Australia. Unsurprisingly, the US remains oblivious to her incredible talent – they’ll probably turn around much much later, as has been the trend for decades – remember Macy Gray? And recently Emeli Sande?
I thoroughly enjoyed the album – especially her cover of Francis And The Light’s ‘I’ll Never Forget You‘. And I’m definitely looking forward to getting her sophomore album, rather her first album of original material titled ‘Fire Within‘, scheduled for release on September 27th. The US gets it in 2014, but then they deserve a late release for ignoring her largely #reductive.
Birdy dropped the album’s second single today, titled ‘No Angel‘, and the Rich Costey-produced piano ballad is a stunner! I love the moody and sparse productions, and Birdy’s lush vocals float flawlessly over the haunting and melancholic melody.
On repeat since today morning y’all!
Check out the gorgeous ballad right here, and make sure you pick up Birdy’s ‘Fire Within‘ when it drops next week!
