Ariana Grande’s ‘Yours Truly’ Debuts At # 1 On Billboard 200, Tamar Braxton’s ‘Love And War’ Arrives At # 2!

Ariana Grande Better Left Unsaid

As expected, Mariah Carey clone Ariana Grande’s very promising début extravaganza ‘Yours Truly‘ roars in at # 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart this week, selling over 138,000 units.

Grande thus becomes the first female vocalist in almost 3 years to send her début album to # 1, the last one being a very drunk Ke$ha who’s ‘Animal‘ arrived at the penthouse in January 2010.

I’m loving the sound of the 90′s flowing out of the album (y’all know I’m a 90′s baybeh!), and apart from the two monster hits ‘The Way‘ feat. Mac Miller and ‘Baby I‘ – the album boasts of a coupla solid gems including ‘Lovin’ It‘ which sounds like a pop throwback of Mary J Blige’s monster 1992 single ‘Real Love‘ from her début album ‘What’s The 411?‘.

After a massive battle with Grande, R’n'B diva Tamar Braxton settles for the # 2 spot on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart with her sophomore album ‘Love And War‘, which moved an impressive 114,000 units this week. Tamar, who is the sister of Soul Siren Toni Braxton, had released her début album in the year 2000. A 13 year wait for a follow-up has certainly yielded results as ‘Love And War‘ becomes the highest charting album of her career, debuting atop the R’n'B/Hip Hop Albums Chart as well!

I’m thoroughly feeling Tamar’s new album, it has an incredible 80′s/90′s Soul/Neo Soul vibe to it, and Tamar’s vocals are on point. Check out the flawless ‘Pieces‘ , ‘Prettiest Girl‘ and the second single ‘The One‘ on the album. Sister Toni should actually sit up and get her act together!

Over at the mighty Hot 100 Singles Chart, Katy Perry’s ‘Roar‘ starts a second week at the penthouse, following a huge gain on Radio as well as staying put at the top of the Digital Songs Chart, selling another 373,000 units this week.

16-year-old New Zealander Lorde sees a massive gain on the Billboard Hot 100, jumping up 5 places to # 3 this week with her début single ‘Royals‘. I’ve been rooting for her since I blogged about her for the first time a coupla months ago, and I have a feeling ‘Royals‘ could be the song to bump off Perry’s ‘Roar’ from the # 1 spot in the coming weeks.

Royals‘ sold an impressive 225,000 units this week, making it the second highest seller of the week behind ‘Roar‘.

Check out the entire top 10 of both the charts right after the jump!
