And finally, some much-needed excitement on the immensely stagnant Billboard Charts (so stagnant that last week’s entire top 10 on the Hot 100 were non-movers).

Reigning chart princesses Katy Perry and Lady Gaga’s new singles unsurprisingly impact the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart this week after being officially released digitally, as well as receiving massive airplay following their much publicized leaks last week.

Perry slays all competition and leaves Gaga way behind with ‘Roar‘, selling an insane 557,000 digital downloads this week and blasting up to # 2 from #85. The song easily crowns the Digital Songs Chart, and sky-rockets to # 13 on the Airplay Charts.

Roar‘ narrowly misses out on the #1 spot after a fierce battle with Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines‘ featuring T.I. and Pharrell which continues to set a record for being the most played song in the history of US Radio yet again with an incredible 228.9 million audience impressions this week, and clocks in an 11th week at # 1.

With ‘Roar‘ garnering about 63 million audience impressions this week, it’s possible for ‘Blurred Lines‘ to command at least another week or two at the penthouse before the former’s airplay takes over, along with a video première.

Lady Gaga’s ‘Applause‘ arrives at # 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, a hefty launch indeed, but rather luke-warm as compared to the # 1 début of ‘Born This Way‘.

Applause‘ racked up sales of 218,000 units this week, again underwhelming compared to her previous debuts.

Still, both Perry and Gaga earn their 12th top 10 hits with their respective new singles.

Over at the Billboard 200 Country mega-star Luke Bryan earns his second # 1 album (both within the same year) as ‘Crash My Party‘ notches up the third highest first-week sales of the year, moving a whopping 528,000 units this week.

R’n’B newcomer K. Michelle launches at # 2 on Billboard with her début album ‘Rebellious Soul‘, selling 72,000 units this week. The set debuts at # 1 on the R’n’B/Hip Hop Albums Chart.
