Grammy-winning reclusive alt-pop chanteuse Fiona Apple has just unveiled a video for ‘Hot Knife‘ – the second single off her critically lauded fourth studio album titled ‘The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do ‘ , and this one’s directed by none other than her ex Paul Thomas Anderson – the person responsible for Fiona classics like ‘Across The Universe‘ and ‘Limp‘.
‘Hot Knife‘ is one of my faves from the universally acclaimed album, and I’m glad the song has got a much deserved video treatment, and as per usual, Fiona does not disappoint.
The moody clip shows the ‘Criminal‘ chanteuse in split screens bringing forth a myriad of expressions while tackling the multi-layered vocals of the lush track.
Passionate and flawless indeed.
‘The Idler Wheel..‘ debuted at # 3 on the Billboard 200 last year – her highest charting album till date – and has shifted over 300,000 units in the US alone, and was declared the best album of 2012 by Time Magazine, along with earning a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album.
Rolling Stone ranked ‘Hot Knife‘ as the 12th best song of 2012. Check out the subtle video right here :
