Jay-Z Earns First UK # 1 Album With ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’

Hip Hop royalty Jay-Z scores his very first UK # 1 album as his 15th studio effort ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail‘ knocks off Mumford And Sons’ ‘Babel‘ from the penthouse of the Official UK Top 40 Albums Chart this week.

The Rap icon has previously placed 3 solo albums within the top 10, reaching as high as # 4 with ‘The Blueprint III‘ in 2009, while his highest placed album as a collaborator is 2011’s ‘Watch The Throne‘ with Kanye West, which peaked at # 3.

Magna Carta Holy Grail‘, which features collaborations with A-List royalties including Beyonce, Frank Ocean and Justin Timberlake, is also set to top the Billboard 200 later this week with expected sales of around half a million units.

Over at the UK Top 40 Singles Chart, Soul smooth-crooner Robin Thicke reclaims the # 1 spot for a 5th week with ‘Blurred Lines‘ featuring Pharrell and TI. Within 7 weeks, the single has notched up sales of an astounding 998,000 – the second highest selling single of 2013 in the UK after Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky‘.

A very well deserved top 20 arrival comes in the form of Australian Rapper Iggy Azalea’s new single ‘Bounce‘, which bounces (pardon the pun) in at # 13, easily becoming her biggest hit so far. ‘Bounce‘ becomes the budding star’s second top 20 hit this year, with ‘Work‘ being her first, peaking at # 17 earlier this year. Azalea’s highly anticipated full-length solo d├ębut ‘The New Classic‘ is scheduled for release later this year.
