Velvet-voiced songstress Amel Larrieux is just about to help y’all make some babies people!
The former Groove Theory member and singer of ‘Sweet Misery‘ – also known as one of the best baby making jams in the history of EVER – has been conspicuously absent from the scene since her 2007 album of covers ‘Lovely Standards‘.
I could do with some no-holds-barred baby-making soul lately, and thankfully, Miss Larrieux seems to have heard my prayers!
If you’re in the mood for something utterly jazzy with hints of old-school soul infused with lush harmonies – Amel Larrieux’s ‘Afraid‘ is the song for you. Previewing the chanteuse’s 5th studio album ‘Ice Cream Every Day‘, the song is all about the fear one faces while meeting that special someone. Larrieux keeps it subtle – much like everything she has done in the past.
Of course, being a part of Sade’s back-up band Sweetback in the 90’s helps bring out the smooth sounds and the beautiful ad-libs towards the end of the song.
Undoubtedly one of the most under-rated vocalists out there, Mizz Larrieux certainly deserves a bigger share of the spot-light than what has been bestowed upon her. Check out her 2000 album ‘Infinite Possibilities‘ to get a taste of the real deal, especially if you’re a fan of Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Sade, Maxwell and Aaliyah.
