Robin Thicke Scores First UK # 1 Single With ‘Blurred Lines’!

The term ‘panty-dropper’ was possibly invented for R’n’B smooth-crooner Robin Thicke.

With an astounding 190,000 units sold this week, Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines‘ featuring Pharrell (who seems to be in the ‘Timbaland’ phase of his career – anything he touches reaches # 1, and he also occupies # 3 with Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky‘) and TI soars in at # 1 on the Official UK Top 40 Singles Chart, thus earning Thicke his first ever # 1 across the pond!

And with the staggering sales figure, Thicke also boasts of the highest selling single of 2013 so far – besting Naught Boy’s ‘La La La‘ featuring Sam Smith, which set the record last week with 145,000 singles sold.

Thoroughly amazing song and video. Now if only the US could get over whatever it is that Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are bellowing out of their vocal cords. I can’t even. Bleh.

At # 5 the thoroughly free-of-flaw and freshly bald ‘Domino‘ chanteuse Jessie J arrives with ‘Wild‘ featuring Dizzee Rascal and Big Sean. As I had predicted earlier, the song, previewing her feverishly anticipated sophomore album, becomes Jessie’s 7th UK Top 10 hit.

A # 17, a stunning Jennifer Lopez returns with Pitbull, who clearly refuses to back off from rapping over EVERY SONG EVER (and can somebody teach him some new words? DALE and MR WORLDWIDE are the only words he seems to know – repeating them incoherently every nano second to create his verses). Either way, ‘Live It Up‘, previewing Lopez’s 8th studio album becomes the Latina goddess’s 20th top 20 hit in the UK, and clearly, Mizz Lopez’s comeback train shows no sign of stopping. I love the summery jam – I’ve been jogging to it a lot lately.

Over at the UK Top 40 Albums Chart, Daft Punk reigns for a second week in a row as ‘Random Access Memories‘ sells another 53,000 units this week to remain the highest selling album in the UK.

Brit Award winning English Folk chanteuse Laura Marling makes a splash on the charts as ‘Once I Was An Eagle‘, the singer’s 4th studio album arrives at # 3, becoming her highest charting album on the UK Charts. Definitely an album worth picking up.

Another highly anticipated album makes a top 10 début, as British girl group Stooshe’s début album ‘London With The Lights On‘ arrives at # 8 this week. The album includes the insanely addictive ‘Black Heart‘ (# 3), easily one of my fave songs from last year, as well as the # 5 peaking ‘Love Me‘ featuring Travie McCoy.
