If you’ve missed out on Grammy nominated Nu-Soul chanteuse Janelle Monae’s slay-worthy 2010 début ‘The ArchAndroid‘, your life is really 50% less exciting than what it ougtha be.
After basically slaying 2012 with ‘We Are Young‘, her global chart-topper with Fun., Mizz Monae is back with the first single of her feverishly anticipated sophomore album ‘The Electric Lady‘, scheduled for release later this year.
This time around, Ms Monae is pulling out the big guns, as she marries funk and nu-soul with a little help from the Queen Of Neo-Soul herself, the endlessly amazing Erykah Badu (easily one of the most iconic vocalists to have walked the planet – and a personal fave) on the aptly titled ‘Q.U.E.E.N‘, a funky anthem that’s bound to create some major hype leading up to the release of ‘The Electric Lady‘.
‘Girl, this is crazy‘, yells Janelle as she delves into some unabashed Prince-influenced funk.
Janelle recently posted this about the song on Twitter :
“‘Q.U.E.E.N’ was inspired by private discussions between Erykah and me. It is meant to make you JAM. DANCE. FUNK OUT. and dialogue later.”
I cannot possibly wait for the album! It’s been ages since Ms Badu was heard on a mainstream project, and Janelle is one vocalist who I wouldn’t sleep on.
