David Bowie Charges Ahead Of Bon Jovi To Land His First UK # 1 Album In 20 Years

Did you know? At 66 years of age, icon and legend David Bowie has just SLAYED YOUR FAVES.

With 94,000 units of ‘The Next Day‘ – Bowie’s first album of new material in almost a decade – sold in the UK this week, David Bowie notches his first official # 1 album in the UK in precisely 20 years, his first since ‘Black Tie White Noise‘, which arrived at the penthouse back in 1993.

Additionally ‘The Next Day‘ becomes the fastest selling album of the year so far, blocking veteran rockers Bon Jovi the top spot with almost double the sales of the latter’s album ‘What About Now‘, which arrives at # 2 this week.

And may I add, what a relief it is to see some real music make it to the upper reaches of the chart for a change.

Over at the UK Top 40 Singles Chart Justin Timberlake’s ‘Mirrors‘ commands the # 1 spot for a third week, triumphing over mid-week leader and Pussycat Dolls front-woman Nicole Scherzinger’s ‘Boomerang‘.

Boomerang‘, the first single from Nicole’s as-yet-untitled second album in the UK was tipped to be her second solo # 1 in the UK (after 2011’s ‘Don’t Hold Your Breath‘) with mid-week sales projecting a lead over Timberlake’s ‘Mirrors‘, but the sales slowed down considerably over the remaining week with the single eventually arriving at # 6.

Seriously though, Scherzi needs to rev it up with her management. With a random successful single here and there, the woman has yet to release her official début album ‘Her Name Is Nicole‘ – which has been waiting to see the light of day for more than half a decade. She finally ended up releasing an album ‘Killer Love‘ internationally (a platinum certified UK top 10 smash), the American version of which will be released in possibly never.

Generally front-women of successful bands end up achieving massive solo success, as evidenced by the global reign of Gwen Stefani, Fergie, Stevie Nicks and Beyoncé. With the Pussycat Dolls certified as one of the most successful girl bands of all time, Scherzinger’s success was rather guaranteed. But with underwhelming singles like ‘Baby Love‘ , ‘Supervillain‘ and ‘Puakenikeni‘ preceding her début album, obviously she lost momentum. Get it together Nicole – unleash some Doll-like slayage soon!

Pop maestra Pink earns her 3rd consecutive top 10 hit from her massively successful 6th studio album ‘The Truth About Love‘, as ‘Just Give Me A Reason‘ featuring Fun.’s Nate Ruess ascends to # 3 this week. The song thus becomes Pink’s 18th top 10 hit in the UK, easily making her one of the most successful vocalists in the history of the UK charts.
