Lady Antebellum : the essential companion for long walks, broken hearts and lonely nights.
7 Grammys, 3 number 1 country albums, 6 number 1 country singles later – Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood give us a tease of what their new studio album, scheduled for a spring release, might sound like.
‘Downtown‘ is the first single from the trio’s as-yet-untitled 4th studio album, and it’s a pop-infused sassy, playful, and light affair – very unlike the heavier sounding ‘Just A Kiss‘ and ‘Need You Now‘ that previewed their last two albums, both of which debuted atop the Billboard 200 Albums Chart.
The Luke Laird, Shane McAnally, and Natalie Hemby-written ‘Downtown‘ showcases a different side of the band, who have mostly relied on flawlessly crafted power-ballads that have crossed over on multiple formats, including pop and adult contemporary, to push their album sales.
Which, of course, is a brilliant idea and a step in the right direction. Especially since the Grammy winning ‘Own The Night‘ followed the same blueprint on which their triple platinum extravaganza and global smash ‘Need You Now‘ was based on. No complaints there though – I’m a sucker for mopey country ballads.
2013 is already looking good y’all! Bring it on Lady A!
