Throwback Tuesday : Elvis Presley’s ‘White Christmas’

It’s the gift-giving season of Christmas y’all! My wallet gently weeps.

But on a more optimistic note (it’s the season to be merry and yada yada), Christmas is exactly a week away y’all! And of course in the true spirit of the holiday season, I’ve already started celebrating a week in advance by over-playing every Christmas album I’ve owned so far, with Mariah’s ‘Merry Christmas‘, Andrea Bocelli’s ‘My Christmas‘, Enya’s ‘And Winter Came‘, Trisha Yearwood’s ‘The Sweetest Gift‘ ruling my playlist this week.

And of course, a Christmas playlist is NEVER complete without the incomparable Elvis Presley’s booming voice.

Elvis’ Christmas Album‘, the first of two Christmas albums Presley had originally recorded, was released in 1957, and through numerous re-issues and re-releases after initially topping the Billboard charts for 4 weeks, the album stands as the highest selling Christmas album of all time in the US, with over 13 million units sold!

My fave song from the album is Presley’s version of Bing Crosby’s yuletide classic ‘White Christmas‘, which encompasses literally EVERYTHING Christmas stands for.

According to the Guinness Book Of World Records, Crosby’s original version of ‘White Christmas‘ remains the best selling single of all time with over 50 million singles sold worldwide, and the song has been covered by EVERYBODY from Barbra Streisand to Lady Gaga, but the King Of Rock’n’Roll’s version packs a different kinda punch y’all! No one does it quite like Elvis!

I’m just gonna keep it simple and mellow and let you click play – and soak in the true spirit of the yuletide season.

If listening to this doesn’t get you in the mood for Christmas, well too bad. You’re the grinch.
