James Arthur, Bruno Mars Score Fastest Selling Single And Album Of 2012 In The UK!

The full impact of the holiday shopping season has officially affected the UK Top 40 y’all! And unlike the state of affairs on the other side of the pond (the Billboard Charts are bleeding away with the most underwhelming Christmas sales in a long time), there’s a lot to be happy about!

X Factor (UK) winner James Arthur arrives at # 1 on the UK Top 40 Singles Chart with his cover of Bajan singer Shontelle’s ‘Impossible‘, selling a massive 490,000 units this week after his performance on the X Factor finale – very easily overtaking the fastest selling single of the year so far in the UK, Cheryl Cole’s ‘Call My Name‘ which arrived with sales of 152,000 units earlier this year. The original version of ‘Impossible‘, which had peaked at # 9 in 2010, re-enters the charts at # 22.

Blocked by James Arthur, Will.I.Am and Britney Spears miss out on the # 1 spot and arrive at # 2 with their smash of a collaboration ‘Scream And Shout‘. Will.I.Am’s much awaited solo d├ębut ‘#willpower‘ is due early next year – and with his extreme collaborations (he paired Jennifer Lopez with Mick Jagger y’all), I’m definitely looking forward to what else he has to offer with along with his occasionally annoying rap verses.

Rihanna earns her second top 10 hit from her 7th studio album, the global # 1 ‘Unapologetic‘, as ‘Stay‘ featuring Mikky Ekko arrives at # 6 in its 3rd chart week. Her former # 1 single ‘Diamonds‘ slips down 2 spots to # 7 this week.

Similarly on the UK Top 40 Albums Chart, Bruno Mars arrives with the fastest selling album of 2012 as his sophomore album ‘Unorthodox Jukebox‘ soars in at # 1 with sales of over 136,000 units in the UK this week. The lead single from the project ‘Locked Out Of Heaven‘, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 last week, slips down a notch to # 3 on the singles chart.
