Taylor Swift, Maroon 5 Rule Billboard Charts, Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’ Inches Closer To # 1!

Taylor Swift y’all. Really. She deserves every bit of this.

Red‘, the irresponsibly successful country-pop chanteuse’s 4th studio album, is undoubtedly her most diverse effort till date, and I can easily count it in as one of my fave albums of the year so far. It’s plain to see why the ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together‘ crooner is breaking new ground, winning over haters and literally ruling the world with her new album, solely cuz she dared to step out of her comfort zone (she tried dubstep y’all, enough said), pushed the envelope, and kept it real. Sugar-coated, but real nevertheless.

After debuting at # 1 with insane sales of over 1.2 million units in the US last week, Swift’s ‘Red‘ unsurprisingly holds on to the top spot on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart for a second week, comfortably ahead of any other album released this week, with sales of over 344,000 units. Within two weeks of its release, ‘Red‘ has sold an astounding 1.553 million units in the US, making it the second highest selling album of the year, behind the mighty Adele’s ‘21‘, which has sold a massive 4.132 million units in 2012 alone (and over 9.91 million units overall in the US).

Swift’s ‘Red‘ blocks rapper Meek Mill’s début album ‘Dreams And Nightmares‘ from the # 1 spot as the album arrives with half the numbers posted by ‘Red‘, selling over 165,000 units to début at # 2.  Rod Stewart collects his 16th top 10 set as ‘Merry Christmas, Baby‘ arrives at # 3 with sales of over 88,000 units.

Over at the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart, things are getting a little stagnant, and rather lame. Maroon 5’s ‘One More Night‘ stays put at # 1 for an 8th week in a row, and I’ll actually be happy to see Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style‘, which remains at # 2 for a 7th consecutive week, replace Maroon 5 at # 1 for a change. Haven’t we had enough of ‘One More Night‘ already?

Chart titan Rihanna seems to be on the right track with her new single ‘Diamonds‘, as the single charges up to # 4 this week with he highest gain in radio airplay in the US. If the song makes it all the way to # 1 (which looks likely), it will earn the singer her 12th # 1 single, tying her with Queen Madonna (of course with less than one-tenth of Madge’s album sales and approximately zero albums that have hit # 1).

Thankfully, ‘Diamonds‘ seems to be a change in pace for the Bajan banger as she ventures away from EDM and shacks up with the flaw-free Sia, who’s arguably one of the biggest names in the songwriting biz right now. ‘Unapologetic‘, Rihanna’s 7th effort scheduled for a November 19th release, might just become her very first Billboard # 1 album.
