Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’ Knocks ‘Gangnam Style’ Off # 1 On UK Top 40, Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ Scores Massive Debut!

Eye to eye, so alive! We’re beautiful…like diamonds in the sky!

Massive chart battle across the pond this week y’all! Earlier this week, as ‘Gangnam Style‘ fever continued to spread across the world at a rather alarming rate, it looked like Psy’s global phenomenon was on lock for another week atop the Official UK Top 40 Singles Chart, until a certain new single ‘Diamonds‘ by a certain Barbados based pop princess Rihanna leaped ahead of any competition this week, slaying everything in its way to arrive at # 1 with sales of over 105,000 copies in the UK! ‘Diamonds‘- easily Rihanna’s best vocal effort in a long time – previews her 7th studio album ‘Seven‘ and becomes the ‘Umbrella‘ singer’s 7th # 1 single on the UK Top 40!

Diamonds‘ pushes South Korean superstar Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style‘ down to # 2 after spending a week at the penthouse, thus becoming the first K-Pop # 1 in the UK. Irrespective of the slip, ‘Gangnam Style‘ continues to scale new heights globally being viewed over 400 million times on YouTube, and selling more copies in the UK in its 7th week to stay ahead of boy-band One Direction’s feverishly anticipated new single ‘Live While We’re Young‘, which had to be satisfied with a # 3 début.

While Rihanna and Psy make all the right moves, it’s a certain vocal phenomenon who’s all set to unleash her mighty pipes on the chart once again, after she clearly (and relentlessly) dominated the charts earlier this year already. Within just 48 hours of its release, Adele’s ‘Skyfall‘ roars in at # 4 on the UK Top 40 Singles Chart, selling an incredible 84,000 copies in just 2 days.  I guess we have a clear idea about who might just top the charts next week!

Pop chanteuse Ellie Goulding’s lead single ‘Anything Could Happen‘ from her highly anticipated sophomore album ‘Halycon‘ (releasing tomorrow) makes an impressive arrival at # 5, becoming her 6th top 40 hit on the charts.

Over at the UK Top 40 Albums Chart, English rockers Muse earn their 4th # 1 album as ‘The 2nd Law‘ knocks off Mumford And Sons’ ‘Babel‘ from the top spot – selling over a massive 108,000 units in the UK this week.
