Chart alert people!
With new singles from Rihanna, Ke$ha, Taylor Swift and new albums from Mumford And Sons, Green Day, No Doubt all arriving on the charts this week – this has to be one of the busiest chart weeks I’ve witnessed in a long time!
On the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, it’s pretty much a rock-fest as far as the top 3 are concerned. Mumford And Sons’ highly anticipated sophomore album ‘Babel‘ scores the highest début of 2012, arriving at the penthouse with a massive 600,000 units sold in the US this week! ‘Babel‘ easily overtakes the first week figures of Justin Bieber’s ‘Believe‘ (374,000) and Madonna’s ‘MDNA‘ (359,000).
Rock royalties Green Day arrive at # 2 with ‘Uno‘ with 139,000 units sold, giving the band their 8th top 10 album. The band’s last album ‘21st Century Breakdown‘ started at # 1 with sales of over 215,000 units in its first week.
At # 3, rock veterans No Doubt returns with their first album in over a decade, as ‘Push And Shove‘ arrives with sales of 115,000 units in the US this week. The band’s last full-length studio album was 2001’s ‘Rock Steady‘ which arrived at # 9, with first week sales of over 255,000 units.
Over at the Hot 100 Singles Chart, Maroon 5’s ‘One More Night‘ fought a fierce battle throughout the week to eventually fend off South Korean phenomenon Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style‘ to retain the # 1 spot for a 3rd week in a row.
‘Gangnam Style‘ still remains a strong contender for the # 1 spot on next week’s charts, especially since the song is ahead of ‘One More Night‘ on the Digital Songs Chart, and it also gains on both the airplay and streaming charts.
Three pop princesses arrive with brand new singles on the Hot 100, lead by the unstoppable Taylor Swift’s second single from her upcoming 4th studio album ‘Red‘, titled ‘Begin Again‘ which arrives at # 7 on the Hot 100, and at # 1 on the Digital Songs Chart with sales of 299,000 downloads sold. As I’ve already blogged about before, ‘Begin Again‘ is probably one of the best songs she’s released in a long time.
Glitter-pop princess Ke$ha’s new single ‘Die Young‘ – the first from her full-length sophomore set ‘Warrior‘ due December 4th arrives at # 13 on the Hot 100.
Rihanna’s brand new single ‘Diamonds‘, from her untitled 7th studio album scheduled for release later this year arrives at # 16. One of her strongest efforts in a long time, ‘Diamonds‘ shouldn’t have a problem making it to the upper reaches of the chart soon.
