TobyMac, Flo Rida Top Billboard Charts, Alanis Morissette Snags 6th Top 10 Album!

The high point of this week’s Billboard Charts? The return of Alt-Rock Goddess Supreme Alanis Morissette after a prolonged 4 year hiatus with her 8th studio album ‘Havoc And Bright Lights‘, which roars in at # 5 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, selling 33,000 units this week – her highest chart placement since 2004’s ‘So-Called Chaos‘ which also peaked at # 5. The 7-time-Grammy winning songstress thus earns her 6th top 10 album, starting with 1995’s legendary ‘Jagged Little Pill‘ – which has sold over an incredible 33 million units worldwide, making it one of the highest selling albums of all time! 3 of those six albums made it to # 1, including ‘Jagged Little Pill‘, 1998’s triple-Platinum ‘Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie‘ and 2002’s Platinum certified ‘Under Rug Swept‘. Alanis last graced the Billboard 200 with 2008’s ‘Flavors Of Entanglement‘ which debuted and peaked at # 8, remaining one of her most under-rated and under-performing albums IMO, barely selling less than a million units worldwide. Either way, it’s good to see her back within the coveted top 5, and hopefully she’ll sustain her sales this time around with some promos.

Meanwhile Christian recording artist TobyMac earns his first # 1 album on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, as ‘Eye On It‘ – his 6th album – bows at the penthouse with sales of over 69,000 units this week. TobyMac previously peaked as high as # 6 with his Gold-certified 2010 release ‘Tonight‘.

For a 79th non-consecutive week, Adele’s ‘21‘ graces the top 10 after slipping off for a sole week, moving up from # 12 to # 10 this week with her iconic sophomore smash and the biggest selling album of 2012, ‘21‘. Adele thus surpasses Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller‘ and Def Leppard’s ‘Hysteria‘ for the 3rd longest stay in the top 10, trailing behind Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born In The USA‘ (84 weeks) and ‘The Sound Of Music‘ soundtrack (109 weeks).

Over at the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart, the ever-so-poignant Flo Rida dethrones Taylor Swift from # 1 with ‘Whistle‘ – prime indication of how the world will REALLY end this year. The song tops the chart for a second non-consecutive week. Taylor Swift’s ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together‘ should return to # 1 next week, now that the video has been released and video-streams will be added to the song’s performance. Taylor additionally leads the Digital Songs Chart for a third week, selling 253,000 downloads this week – taking the total sales of ‘Never‘ to a massive 1.2 million downloads in just 3 weeks!
