Taylor Swift, Trey Songz Dominate Billboard Charts, Adele Slips Out Of Top 10 After 78 Weeks!

Go Taylor!

After a record-breaking jump to the summit last week, Taylor Swift’s ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together‘ continues to dominate the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart for a second week in a row! The single, which sold another 307,000 digital singles this week (topping the Digital Songs Chart again), previews Taylor’s upcoming 4th studio album titled ‘Red‘ – scheduled for an October 22nd release. Within two weeks of availability, the single has sold a whopping 930,000 downloads, and is pretty much on lock to compete with Carly Rae Jepsen, Gotye and Fun. as the biggest selling digital single this year. Basic lessers – prepared to be slayed by the mighty Swift!

Over at the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, R’n’B crooner Trey Songz earns his first # 1 album as ‘Chapter V‘ arrives at # 1 with sales of over 135,000 units in the US this week. Songz previously managed a # 2 peak with his last album ‘Passion, Pain And Pleasure‘ which arrived with higher first week sales of 240,000 units. Seriously y’all, overall album sales have been so incredibly dismal this year. Things should pick up post September 18th, starting with Pink’s ‘The Truth About Love‘, followed by No Doubt’s ‘Push And Shove‘ and of course, Swift’s ‘Red‘ – which should hopefully break her own record of a million plus in first week sales, considering the impact the new single has had on all formats including Pop, Country and Adult Contemporary.

After an astounding 78 consecutive weeks on the top 10 of the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, Adele’s ‘21‘ – arguably a legendary album already – finally slips out of the top 10, slipping from # 8 to # 12 this week. Till date, ‘21‘ has sold an unparalleled 23.2 million units worldwide since its release last year! ‘21‘┬áis this year’s highest selling album as well, irrespective of being released last year – selling an astounding 3.9 million units in 2012 in the US, remaining way ahead of the year’s second highest selling album, One Direction’s ‘Up All Night‘ with sales of over 1.1 million units in the US. The album also ties Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller‘ and Def Leppard’s ‘Hysteria‘ for the 3rd longest run on the top 10 – behind Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born In The USA‘ (84 weeks) and my fave-est soundtrack of all time (and the first cassette I ever owned when I was a mighty 2 years of age), ‘The Sound Of Music‘, which spent an insane 109 weeks on the top 10! I have a feeling ‘21‘ might just surge back within the top 10 again, especially since no major releases are scheduled for the next few weeks.
