The Janaka Selekta New Wave Remix Of Lana Del Rey’s ‘Born To Die’ Is Very Devoid Of Any Flaw.

The thing about Elizabeth Woolridge Grant aka Lizzy Grant aka Lana Del Rey aka ‘self-styled gangsta Nancy Sinatra’ aka Our Lady Of The Royal Pout – is that she’s done a pretty good job of releasing her effectively flawless début album ‘Born To Die‘ to rave reviews globally. With a relentless onslaught of singles and some rather captivating videos – 2 million units of her début album sold since January this year is by no means a small feat. And the fact that she’s recording seven new songs for the ‘Paradise‘ edition of the album, a re-issue scheduled for a December 30 release later this year, pretty much indicates she’s not done slaying YET. And a steady stream of remixes that have made their way to the clubs have significantly contributed to the longevity of the album.

I like the fact that Lana’s music is an incredible blend of everything. The versatility of the album could very easily spin off a coupla remixes featuring everyone from Missy Elliott and Lil’ Kim, or maybe a Country version of a few of the songs featuring someone along the lines of Reba McEntire, or maybe a Jazz remix featuring Diana Krall – the possibilities are endless! As of the now, the one remix that has caught my fancy is a totally lush and tranquil remix of the title track ‘Born To Die‘ by San Francisco based DJ/Producer and one half of the cross cultural band Gods Robots, Janaka Selekta. Titled the Janaka Selekta New Wave Remix, Lana’s unique vocals blend in quite effortlessly without sounding out of place in this version – something that significantly missed in most of the other remixes that have been released so far. Surprisingly, the song fits in quite well in my baby-making playlist, nestled snugly among classics by Janet, Sade etc. Check it out right here :
