Throwback Tuesday : Nina Simone’s ‘Black Is The Color Of My True Love’s Hair’

It’s one of those days y’all. It’s dull, it’s rainy, it’s mellow – it’s an ideal day to just stay back at home and do positively nothing. I need the blues today – an ode to a rainy day, and there’s nothing more appropriate than a collection of honest, bluesy, rollicking odes by the incomparable High Priestess Of Soul – Mizz Nina Simone.

BOW DOWN.

I chose the incredible ‘Black Is The Color Of My True Love’s Hair‘ as today’s Throwback Tuesday song of the week. Miss Nina Simone, being a consummate musical story-teller, revitalized this particular traditional folk number and included it in the album ‘Nina Simone At Town Hall‘ – released in 1959. Being a valiant vocal power-house, Nina Simone’s version effectively cast a spell back then, and to this day, it stands out as one of her signature numbers. This is ALL that I need to get by on a day like today. Check it out right here:
