CUZ I RILLY RILLY RILLY WANNA ZIG-A-ZIG-AH!
Behold – a rare moment of flawlessness and nostalgia. The biggest and most iconic girl group of all time made a re-return to the stage at the Olympic Closing Ceremony and the world, just like that, was a better place to live in. Girl-power was re-defined yet again, as 16 years after their first single ‘Wannabe‘ gave a name to a new era in music – Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm, Melanie Brown and Geri Halliwel – known as the Spice Girls of course, reunited for one of the most watched events in television history, the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games.
Fashionably flawless, ferocious, phenomenal – the girls, all women now, just gave the world a heads-up on why they are considered icons. And if you’re a 90’s baybeh like me – I’m pretty sure getting a little misty-eyed following their incredible performance was the order of the day! It was nothing short of a celebration as the girls performed two of their greatest hits – ‘Wannabe‘ and ‘Spice Up Your Life‘ – reminders of how the group impacted Pop music, rather music as a whole, with arguably two of the most important songs of the last century. Check out the performance right here :
Considering that the world watched in awe, and begged for more once it was over (too short as usual) – the girls really should release a new album now. The time is ripe, music is in dire need of a change, and bands from the 90’s are having a reunion extravaganza – everyone from the Backstreet Boys to No Doubt to Sixpence None The Richer. It’s too early for a ‘Viva Forever‘ eh girls? We love you, we grew up with you – and we want to share a lot more of our lives through your music as we grow older. Get into the recording studio now will ya?
