Carly Rae Jepsen Spends 8th Week Atop Billboard Hot 100, Zac Brown Band Back At # 1 On Billboard 200!

Oh Carly SLAY Jepsen you little chart slayer you! The very naked Gotye most certainly will not be singing ‘Somebody That I Used To Know‘ to you, considering that he’ll remember you for a lifetime for equaling his record for the longest stay at # 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this year (so far), and possibly breaking it next week. The wildly addictive ‘Call Me Maybe‘ shows no sign of slowing down as the song spends an 8th week atop the Billboard Hot 100, equaling the stay by Gotye and Kimbra’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know‘ as the longest running # 1 single of 2012. The song had a chance of being dethroned this week by Katy Perry’s goth fairy tale ‘Wide Awake‘ or Maroon 5’s perpetually stranded ‘Payphone‘ feat. Wiz Khalifa – both of which slipped down the Digital Songs Chart this week, coming in at #2 and # 3 on the Hot 100 respectively. The unlikely candidate for # 1 next week might be the very talented and artistic Flo Rida’s ‘Whistle’‘ – a thoroughly poignant song about ‘girls who love girls’ and performing a wide variety of oral activities – that takes the # 1 spot on the Digital Songs Chart this week with 237,000 singles sold, coming in at # 4 on the Hot 100. America truly has a fascinating taste in music, definitely oozing class.

Over at the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, a rather slow week begins as Zac Brown Band’s ‘Uncaged‘ moves back to # 1 dethroning Nas’s ‘Life Is Good‘, with a meager 48,000 units sold this week in the US. The set bowed at # 1 two weeks ago. With major releases like Pink, No Doubt, Green Day etc being scheduled for September, August seems to be generally slow. Alanis Morissette’s new album ‘Havoc And Bright Lights‘ should hopefully brighten up things later this month.
