Adam Lambert, Gotye Top Billboard Charts, Carly Rae Jepsen Inches Closer To # 1

It’s the mother of all charts people! And this week, an American Idol alumni replaces a former Idol on top of the Billboard 200 Albums Chart. Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert’s sophomore album ‘Trespassing‘ sold 77,000 copies this week to end Carrie Underwood’s 2-week-reign atop the Billboard 200 with ‘Blown Away‘, which falls to # 3 this week, selling 54,000 units to reach an impressive total sum of 441,000 copies in the US in just 3 weeks! ‘Trespassing‘ becomes the openly gay Lambert’s first # 1 album. His début album ‘For Your Entertainment‘ entered the Billboard 200 at # 3, although with higher first week sales of 198,000 copies.

Any guesses for the album at # 2? The Adele reign just won’t end. EVER. ‘21‘ stays put at # 2 with another 63,000 copies sold this week.

Over at the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart, Gotye and Kimbra dominate for a 6th week with ‘Somebody That I Used To Know‘, which also crowns the Radio Songs Chart this week, thus officially being declared the most played song on US Radio this week.

Although Gotye’s on top, the one you need to watch out for is Canadian chanteuse Carly Rae Jepsen with her insanely addictive single, ‘Call Me Maybe‘. I had already featured this song in the Stuck In My Head section, considering that it’s a ridiculously infectious song, and difficult to stop humming once you listen to it. ‘Call Me Maybe‘ zooms up to # 2 on the Hot 100 this week behind Gotye, while vaulting ahead of Gotye to top the Digital Songs Chart, thus being officially crowned the highest selling digital single in the US this week, selling a whopping 293,000 downloads! A strong contender to topple Gotye in the coming weeks, unless Maroon 5’s ‘Payphone‘ featuring Wiz Khalifa makes a sudden digital leap ahead of Jepsen.
