Must Watch Gig Of The Week : State Of Bengal Playing At Out Of The Box, New Delhi, On May 16th!

This one’s a gig you wouldn’t wanna miss guys! British DJ Sam Zaman from State Of Bengal, one of the pioneers of the erstwhile Asian Underground movement, will be doing an interactive DJ set incorporating some live electronic bass at Out Of The Box, Hauz Khas, tomorrow the 16th of May, 2012. I’m definitely looking forward to this one, considering that Sam’s influence on the British music scene has been nothing short of phenomenal (and considering the fact that I come from Bengal myself). His genre-bending ability to flawlessly blend Indian classical (especially folk from Bengal like Baul) with Hip-Hop, Rap, Break-beat, Punk is groundbreaking. As if that isn’t enough, the man’s toured with Bjork. And remixed one of my fave Bjork songs ever – ‘Hunter‘ from the insanely amazing ‘Homogenic‘ aka one of my fave albums of ALL time.  ‘Nuff said!

Watch Sam weave his magic with drummer Mathis and AudioPervert from Delhi-based Electronica duo Teddy Boy Kill tomorrow, 16th May 2012, 9 pm at Out Of The Box, Hauz Khas. In case you miss out on this one, State Of Bengal also performs at Jaipur on the 19th of May, 2012, at the Re-Cycle Pub.

In the meantime, check out one of my fave songs by SOB, the incredible ‘IC408‘ right here :
