Rita Ora, Keane Dominate UK Top 40!

21-year-old Roc Nation newbie Rita Ora dominates the UK Top 40 Singles Chart this week with her second # 1 single this year, ‘R.I.P’ feat. Tinie Tempah. Jay Z’s new protegée Rita has had a dream run so far this year, with her first single ‘Hot Right Now‘, a duet with DJ Fresh, topping the singles chart earlier this year. ‘Hot Right Now‘ also remains the highest selling single in the UK this year, while the Drake-written and Chase and Status-produced  ‘R.I.P‘ is already off to an impressive start as far as sales are concerned, moving 105,000 copies this week.

Rita’s chart domination pushes last week’s chart-topper Tulisa’s ‘Young‘ down a notch to # 2, while former chart topper Carly Rae Jepsen moves down one spot to # 3 with ‘Call Me Maybe‘.

The guys from Far East Movement get a little help from teen sensation Justin Bieber to roar in at # 7 with their brand new single ‘Live My Life‘.

Chart dominatrix Rihanna’s ‘Where Have You Been‘ is the 3rd new entry within the top 10 this week, as the single shoots up 13 places to place at # 8.

Outside of the top 10, in its 19th chart week, the infectious ‘212‘ by debutante rapstress Azealia Banks featuring Lazy Jay stays put within the top 20, moving down 4 spots to # 18 this week. Definitely one of my fave singles this year, and it’s quite a commendable feat for a début rap single to chart for so long on the official UK Singles Chart.

Over at the UK Top 40 Albums Chart, English Alt-Rockers Keane land their 5th # 1 album, as ‘Strangeland‘ beats Emeli Sande’s ‘Our Version Of Events‘ to the penthouse. In its 13th week on the chart, Sande’s album moves up 6 places to # 2, boosted by her performance on this week’s episode of  ‘The Voice‘. Keane is beaten only by The Beatles as far as consecutive # 1 albums  since a début album is concerned, with The Beatles having 7 in a row starting from their 1963 début ‘Please Please Me‘ till 1966’s ‘Revolver‘.
