Adele has officially decided that she cannot stop breaking records! In its 65th week on the UK Top 40 Albums Chart, her billion-trillion selling sophomore album ‘21‘ spends its 23rd week at # 1, refusing Jason Mraz the top spot for his 4th studio effort, ‘Love Is A Four Letter Word‘ which had to make do with a # 2 début. The difference in sales of both the albums? A mighty 44 copies! And whose record did Adele break this week? None other than folk legend Bob Dylan himself! With a combined 24 weeks at # 1 (23 for ‘21‘ and 1 for ‘19‘), Adele equals Dylan’s stay atop the UK Top 40, and marches ahead of Eminem, who spend a combined 23 weeks on top. My question is WHO else is buying Adele’s album now? Hasn’t the entire human population inhabiting this planet brought it already? In the UK alone, the album has shifted over 4,142,000 copies, making it the 6th highest selling album of all time there!
Adele’s ‘21‘ is not the only album within the top 5 to surpass 60 weeks on the charts. Flawlessness supreme Mizz Jessie J completes a 60 week run of her début classic ‘Who You Are‘, and slips down a notch to # 5 this week, powered by her new single ‘Laserlight‘ featuring David Guetta.
Over at the Singles Chart, Carly Rae Jepsen spends a 3rd consecutive week at # 1 with her ridiculously addictive single ‘Call Me Maybe‘.
