Stuck In My Head : Azealia Banks’ ‘212’ Featuring Lazy Jay

Rising Brooklyn MC Azealia Banks is all set to unveil her début album ‘Broke With Expensive Taste‘ later this year, and with the resurgence of the female MC, the timing couldn’t have been any better. Nicki Minaj’s dominating every credible chart right now, Rap royalties Missy and Eve are back in the studio, MIA’s about to release her new album after collaborating with her Madgesty Madonna on her global # 1 album ‘MDNA‘, Lauryn Hill’s gradually making a comeback especially in the live circuit, Lil Kim’s hinting at a brand new tour, while rising MC and Australian native Iggy Azalea is already in the news for her music and brewing feud with Azealia. It’s 1997 all over again y’all! I’ve been following Iggy and Azealia for a while now, and although I’m feeling Iggy’s new single ‘Murda Bizness‘ featuring T.I., Azealia’s clearly the one with the better single out of the two budding Rapstresses.

212‘ is Azealia’s first single from her upcoming project, and the song, which is a nod to the area code 212 of Harlem where Banks grew up, samples Lazy Jay’s track ‘Float My Boat‘. Azealia raps effortlessly over an insanely catchy and uptempo beat with some cleverly crafted mischievous and rather filthy gender-bending lyrics, and this song getting stuck in your head is inevitable, whether you like it or not. And with her lyrics giving Nicki Minaj a run for the title of potty-mouth extraordinaire, there’s ample testimony in there that the newcomer’s not ready to shy away from the spotlight. The sneaky exuberance of the track has already pushed Azealia into the spotlight, and ‘212‘ is a hit in Europe. Expect the US to follow suit very soon indeed.  Listen to ‘212‘ featuring Lazy Jay right here :
