Nicki Minaj, Carly Rae Jepsen Debut Atop UK Top 40, Nicki Creates History!

Mizz Nicki Minaj just upped the game for female rappers by becoming the first and only solo female rapper in history to début at # 1 on the UK Top 40 Albums Chart, as her feverishly anticipated sophomore album ‘Pink Friday : Roman Reloaded‘ dethroned Madonna’s ‘MDNA‘ from the penthouse this week! No other female rapper has achieved this feat before, including royalties like Missy Elliot, Eve, Lauryn Hill, Lil’ Kim and Foxy Brown. Way to go Nicki! It’s good to see female rappers slowly but steadily making their way back in the game, with newbies Azealia Banks and Iggy Azalea making some major noise, and Missy and Eve returning with their highly anticipated new records this year. Watch out for Nicki’s domination on the other side of the Atlantic later this week, as ‘Pink Friday : Roman Reloaded‘ is also poised to début atop the Billboard 200 Albums Chart as well!

Over at the Top 40 Singles Chart, Canadian chanteuse Carly Rae Jepsen sold a whopping 100,000 copies of her insanely addictive single ‘Call Me Maybe‘ to début at # 1, replacing Chris Brown’s ‘Turn Up The Music‘ which plummets to # 5 this week.
