Bruce Springsteen, Gotye Top UK Top 40 Charts, Nicki Minaj Creates History!

In an incredibly busy chart week packed with new releases by both seasoned veterans and newbies alike, we have no less than 12 new entries within the UK Top 40 Albums Chart this week. Outselling new releases by Lionel Richie, Katie Melua, Sinead O’Connor, Doris Day, The Military Wives, The Civil Wars among others, 21-time Grammy winner Bruce Springsteen shows them all why he’s still ‘The Boss’ as he smashes his way to # 1 with his new album ‘Wrecking Ball‘, his 9th # 1 album in the UK dating back to his first, ‘Born In The USA‘ in 1984.

The British choir Military Wives enter the albums chart at # 2 behind Springsteen with their début album ‘In My Dreams‘. Their début single ‘Wherever You Are‘ topped the singles chart on Christmas week last year selling over half a million copies within a week.

Gotye holds his ground atop the UK Top 40 Singles Chart for a 4th week with his monster hit ‘Somebody That I Used To Know‘ featuring Kimbra. His album ‘Making Mirrors‘ slips down four places to # 10 on the albums chart.

Emeli Sande continues rocking both the singles and the albums chart with her début effort and last week’s chart topper ‘Our Version Of Events‘. Easily one of my favorite albums this year, it slips down 2 notches to # 3 this week, while her single ‘Next To Me‘ moves up a notch to # 2 on the singles chart.

Nicki Minaj creates history as her single ‘Startships‘ moves up 2 spots to # 3 this week on the singles chart, making her the highest charting solo female rapper in the history of the UK charts. She beats previous chart records set by Missy Elliott and Miss Dynamite, both of whom peaked at # 5 with their solo singles ‘4 My People‘ and ‘Dy-Na-Mi-Tee‘ respectively (they have previously charted higher as guest vocalists or as a part of a duet).

The latest girl-pop group in the circuit, StooShe, storms in at # 5 with the lead single ‘Love Me‘ (featuring Travis McCoy) of their upcoming album ‘Swings And Roundabouts‘.

Songstress supreme Katie Melua debuts at # 8 with her incredible new album ‘Secret Symphony‘, making it her 5th consecutive studio album to make it to the top 10 of the UK Top 40, dating back to her UK # 1 début ‘Call Off The Search‘ in 2003.
