Adele, Whitney Houston Dominate Billboard 200 Albums Chart

For an astounding 23rd week, Adele’s ‘21‘ holds steady atop the Billboard 200 Albums Chart this week, extending its reign as the longest running # 1 album by a female artist, and trailing behind Prince And The Revolution’s ‘Purple Rain‘ soundtrack which spent 24 weeks at # 1 during 1984-85. The album sold another 247,000 copies this week in the US, and remains the highest selling album this year with 2.07 million copies sold in the US in 2012 alone. Meanwhile Adele’s ‘19‘ holds steady at # 7 in its 124th week on the chart.

Whitney Houston continues to dominate the top 10 with 3 albums, with ‘Whitney : The Greatest Hits‘ at # 2 for a 3rd consecutive week, ‘The Bodyguard‘ (OST) at # 5, and ‘Whitney Houston‘ at # 10. Additionally, the late diva has 6 other albums within the top 100 itself. ‘Whitney : The Greatest Hits‘ is the second highest selling album so far in the US this year with 527,000 copies sold in 2012.

Kid Cudi debuts at # 3 with ‘WZRD‘ selling 66,000 copies, the highest and only new entry this week within the top 10, while Rihanna re-enters the top 10 with ‘Talk That Talk‘ at # 9.
