Emeli Sande, Gotye Rule UK Top 40

The 2012 Critics Choice Brit Award winner Emeli Sande topples none other than the mighty Adele’s ‘21‘ to reclaim the # 1 spot on the UK Top 40 Albums Chart for a second week with her début smash ‘Our Version Of Events‘, while her single ‘Next To Me‘ moves down a notch to # 3 on the Top 40 Singles Chart this week. I have to say I totally love Emeli’s new album, and I definitely did not expect the album to be so lush! (give the songs ‘Mountains‘ and ‘Suitcase‘ a listen, and you’ll get the point).

Gotye continues his reign at # 1 on the UK Top 40 Singles Chart for a 3rd non-consecutive week with his now-global smash ‘Somebody That I Used To Know‘ featuring Kimbra, while his album ‘Making Mirrors‘ moves down a notch to # 6.

After topping the Singles Chart with his début solo single ‘No Regrets‘, British singer/songwriter/rapper Dappy blasts in at # 2 with his second single ‘Rockstar‘ featuring Brian May.

The big winner at this year’s Brits (apart from Adele) Ed Sheeran’s 4th single ‘Drunk‘ moves up two spots to # 9, making it his 4th consecutive top 10 hit from his début album ‘+‘ , which is at # 3 on its 25th chart week.

Nicki Minaj is making all the right moves on both sides of the Atlantic, as ‘Starships‘, the first single from her highly anticipated sophomore album ‘Pink Friday : Roman Reloaded‘ moves up two spots to # 5, becoming her second solo top 10 hit on the UK Top 40 Singles Chart after last year’s world-wide mega-smash ‘Super Bass‘, and her first top 5 hit on the charts. She thus equals Missy Elliott (‘4 My People’) and Miss Dynamite’s record (‘Dy-na-mi-tee‘) as the only female rappers to have a top 5 hit in the UK, and both the songs peaked at # 5. She will create history if ‘Starships‘ rises any further next week, by becoming the highest charting female rapper of all time in the UK.
