Adele’s ’21’ Spends 21st Week At # 1, Sells 730,000 Copies In The US

Listen y’all, I’ve just decided to rename the blog ADELETALK.com. Firstly, this woman has clearly decided that she cannot stop being completely amazing. And then she wins about EVERY AWARD in the history of EVER. And don’t even get me started about her chart achievements. It’s another day, and another new achievement by this all-kindsa-amazing Brit diva. So here we go again!

Adele’s ‘21‘ spends its 21st week at # 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, surpassing Whitney Houston’s record of 20 weeks at # 1 with the soundtrack to ‘The Bodyguard‘. Additionally, ‘21‘ spends its 52nd week on the chart, and throughout the year, the album has yet to chart lower than # 7. And what’s even more amazing is that ‘21‘ had its highest weekly sales last week, selling an unprecedented 730,000 copies following her domination at the Grammy’s last week. This brings the US sales of the album at 7,353,000 copies, and over a whopping 18 million copies worldwide to date! Is there ANYBODY who does not have Adele’s ’21’ ??

As ‘21‘ continues to break new ground, Adele’s début album ‘19‘ makes some major moves of its own, as it moves up 5 spots to # 4 selling 87,000 copies, marking its highest position and best sales week on the Billboard 200 since it’s release.

The tragic death of Whitney Houston spurred a huge gain in sales of the late diva’s albums, of which her 2000 greatest hits collection ‘Whitney : The Greatest Hits‘ stormed up the charts from # 6 to # 2 this week, selling 175,000 copies this week. Additionally Houston has a total of seven albums on the chart this week: “Whitney Houston” (72-37 with 17,000), “The Bodyguard” soundtrack (80-38 with 17,000), “I Look To You” (118-65 with 9,000), “Whitney” (122-87 with 7,000), “The Preacher’s Wife” soundtrack (183-90 with 7,000) and “My Love Is Your Love” (a re-entry at No. 193 with 4,000).

And finally The Civil Wars get their due on the Billboard 200. One of my fave bands last year (read the review of their début album ‘Barton Hollow here), I had been rooting for this band for months, and I was incredibly happy for their double win at the Grammy’s last week (read all about it here in case you missed them). Following their win as well as their performance at the Grammy’s, ‘Barton Hollow‘ shoots up from # 41 to # 10 on its 54th week on the Billboard 200, selling 36,000 copies last week.
