Grammy nominated Folk-Country-Bluegrass duo The Civil Wars received a whole lotta love here at zomgtalk last year, and why would they not. I mean they’re literally the most under-rated music act of 2011, one you need to seriously look out for. In case you haven’t browsed through our top 50 albums of 2011 (for which you should should quite frankly be reprimanded and severely cussed, so read it right HERE), The Civil Wars’ mesmerizing début ‘Barton Hollow‘ came in at # 13.
And what looks like a definite step in the right direction to superstardom, The Civil Wars and Country music’s pin-up girl of cuteness Taylor Swift have collaborated for the new single ‘Safe And Sound’ from the soundtrack of the highly anticipated movie ‘The Hunger Games’.
Produced by T Bone Burnett, ‘Safe And Sound‘ is arguably the most mature and lush single, both lyrically and vocally, that Taylor Swift has ever come up with. And I believe The Civil Wars have a lot to do with that. The lover’s lullaby is built on an escalating melody, while the hauntingly restrained harmonies between Taylor and The Civil Wars’ Joy Williams sound positively amazing. This could very well be the watershed line for Taylor Swift, the song that marks her growth and evolution as an artist. Give it a listen.
While we all love and adore Taylor to a diabetic death, it’s The Civil Wars who you need to watch out for. They’re making all the right moves, I predict bigness for them pretty soon.
