Coldplay, Rihanna Dominate Billboard Charts, Kelly Clarkson Enters Top 10

Coldplay unsurprisingly bows atop the Billboard 200 Albums Chart with their new album ‘Mylo Xyloto‘ which sold a whopping 447,000 copies this week, becoming their 3rd chart topper in the US, and concurrently posting the 3rd highest sales week of this year behind Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way‘ (1.1 million in first week sales) and Lil’ Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter 4‘ (964,000 in first week sales). The album’s also at # 1 on the UK Top 40 this week, with 208,000 copies in first week sales.

Kelly Clarkson earns her 5th consecutive top 3 album as ‘Stronger‘ storms in at # 2 with 163,000 copies sold. She simultaneous enters the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 with the single ‘Mr Know It All‘ which moves from # 19 to # 10, thus becoming her 9th top 10 hit.

Rihanna dominates the Hot 100 this week with her new single ‘We Found Love‘ feat Calvin Harris, thus taking her tally of # 1 singles to 11, and tying her with Whitney Houston and moving ahead of the legendary Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder, each of whom have 10 Billboard # 1 Singles.

Although she has yet to score a # 1 album in the US, and her combined album sales are less than single album sales by the iconic Mizz Houston or Mizz Janet, it’s still an incredible feat, especially with her contemporaries like Adele, Katy and Gaga clawing it out like it’s nobody’s bizness.
