This is really sad y’all! After 31 years of fantastic music together, the band members of R.E.M just called it quits! Sad day for a worldwide legion of fans who have grown up to some of the finest music created over the last 3 decades including perennial faves ‘Losing My Religion‘ and ‘Everybody Hurts‘.
The band issued a statement on its website that is as follows :
“To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.”
After 15 albums together, guess fans were pretty sure that this was one band that had almost made it all the way together. They’re one of the most successful alternative bands of all time with over 85 million albums sold worldwide. The split comes barely 6 months after the release of their last album ‘Collapse Into Now‘ that debuted at # 5 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart.
‘Everybody Hurts‘ was and still remains a personal fave of all time. Guess it’s the perfect song to listen to as we bid goodbye to one of the greatest bands of all time.
