One Direction, Ed Sheeran Dominate UK Charts

British Irish boy-band and X-Factor season 7 finalists One Direction stormed in at # 1 on the UK Singles Chart with their début single ‘What Makes You Beautiful‘, while British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran debuted at # 1 with his début album ‘+‘ on the Albums Chart. Trust boy-band mania to still continue in the UK! The song’s as cheeky as it gets ( what else do you expect when the oldest member of the band is 19?), and I’m sure screaming hormonal pre-teens and teens made this one land straight on top. Ho-hum! Puberty can take such a toll on music these days. The single sold a whopping 153,000 copies this week to become the fasting selling # 1 of 2011 on the UK Charts!

Not too many changes in the charts this week with ‘Moves Like Jagger‘ by Christina Aguilera and Maroon 5 staying at # 2 for a 3rd week in a row, while Adele refuses to go anywhere with both her albums ‘21‘ and ‘19‘ continuing their chart runs at # 2 and # 8 respectively.
