Maroon 5, Christina Aguilera Top Billboard Hot 100 With ‘Moves Like Jagger’

Talk about making a comeback in style! Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera’s global smash ‘Moves Like Jagger’ moved from # 4 to # 1 this week on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart this week. The song’s at # 1 on the Digital Songs Chart as well with 217,000 downloads sold this week. It’s Maroon 5 ‘s first # 1 single in 4 years, as the last time they reached the penthouse was in 2007 with their only other # 1 single ‘Makes Me Wonder‘. Aguilera on the other hand achieves her first # 1 single in over a decade! The last time she was at the top of the charts was in 2001 with ‘Lady Marmalade‘ featuring Lil’ Kim, Mya and Pink. This marks Aguilera’s 5th Billboard # 1 single. Interestingly, she now ties with her arch rival and fellow Mickey Mouse Club alumni Britney Spears as far as # 1 singles are concerned.

This definitely marks a comeback in style for both the acts, as both Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera’s previous albums failed to live to expected sales marks, especially Aguilera’s ‘Bionic‘ which bombed. Glad to see her back in style and that too on top. Both the acts gained a major boost in their sales due their appearance as judges and mentors on the reality show  ‘The Voice‘.

Maroon 5’s frontman Adam Levine concurrently enters the chart at # 10 as well, as a featured artist on Gym Class Heroes’ ‘Stereo Hearts‘.

Last week’s # 1 ‘Last Friday Night‘ by Katy Perry plummets to # 5. Noteworthy movers this week on the charts are Adele’s ‘Someone Like You‘ (#34 to # 19), Lady Gaga’s ‘You And I‘ (# 35 to # 16) and Rihanna’s ‘Cheers(Drink To That)‘ (# 17 to # 11).

On the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, The Game’s ‘R.E.D‘ debuts at # 1 with 98,000 units sold it its first week, while the legendary Mizz Barbra Streisand bows in at # 4 with her set ‘What Matters Most‘, her 31st Top 10 album!
